The Soviet Army Killed God
This is an image widely associated with a formerly lost creepypasta. There's quite a story for this one, not just for the picture itself, but the history behind it.
Where to start... Well, let's start with the story this image was supposedly attached to.
This image is most known (in the creepypasta world at least) as an image associated with a formerly lost creepypasta. Like all golden era creepypastas, this story originated from 4Chan.
On a, X board thread, a user asked for resources to learn about monster hunting. The usual 4Chan antics followed (although one used called HowToKill posted some very interesting tutorials, that I dutifully copied down and will be uploading to the archive seperately.)
One individual, however, seemingly stole the show with their addition to the thread:
"The reason that monsters don't roam the world freely anymore is simple. Science has progressed to the point where they can be easily killed. Monsters depended upon humanity remaining technologically inept. This was the reason for the Christian dark age, supernatural entities desiring that humanity not be able to challenge them for rule of the planet.
Both the Soviet Union and the USA throughout the cold war made it their duty to put any high-level supernatural entities that they found to death. Publically this was acknowledged only as testing of nuclear weapons. Nietzsche was wrong when he claimed that God was dead. The Soviet Union didn't put Yahveh to death till October 30, 1961 for crimes against humanity. The leadership of both governments today though has fallen under their thrall again, and it is unclear who now will stand against them.
Lesser supernatural entities are exceptionally vulnerable to heavy metals. Lead is quite effective, but depleted uranium is best. Single shots aren't deadly to them, but repeated hits can quickly drop them. Vulnerability to silver is disinformation as it is far less effective than ordinary lead bullets. The advent of semi-automatic and fully-automatic weapons brought the monster problem rapidly under control, and today people are so disconnected from the problems that they caused in the past that many people either don't believe that they ever existed."
This post seemed to have a very profound effect on those who read it. Although it didn't recieve much attention in the actual thread.
This little creepypasta was lost to time for a while, before being rediscovered in 2022.
And this post actually has FAR more significance outside of just this image. Believe it or not, this post is what inspired the Global Occult Coalition in the universe of SCP! That's right! One of the biggest GOIs in SCP canon, is due to this post!
But where did the image come from, you might ask? Well, that's the thing. Nothing in the original thread even includes this picture. The picture in question is actually a photograph from the Winter War. A war between Finland and The Soviet Union.
The picture was first mentioned by u/yokai007_100 on an r/tipofmytongue reddit post. Where the user was trying to find the aforementioned creepypasta, and listed the image as having been a part of it. It was decided that the image must've been added in a copypaste version of the story at some point.
