I Was Stalked At Barnes And Noble

Disclaimer: I know I write a lot of fictional horror stories on this website. But this is absolutely not one of them. What I'm about to write here is the truth of what happened.

Hello everyone, Doll Bones here. I just got back from vacation with my girlfriend. It was an absolutely lovely time. For the most part anyways.

Something rather freaky happened to me though. Its been stuck in my head since it happened and I really just wanted to get it out on paper.... Well, digital paper I suppose.

We went to Barnes and Noble. This is a very special thing, and something we do on all our vacations. Our hometown has no big bookstore at all. So its a nice treat. As soon as we get there, I usually end up lost in my own little world. Wandering around and picking out a whole basket full of books.

This trip was no different. I was off in my own little headspace, exploring the shelves. I wasn't really paying much attention to who or what was going on around me. My girlfriend was off in the cafe section, because she doesn't really care for book browsing like I do.

I was in the back of the store, looking at the horror and sci-fi books when a woman came up to me. I was kneeling on the ground and she knelt down beside me.

She asked me "do you know that man?".

At first I was super confused. I didn't even realize she was talking to me. But after I looked up at her, she nodded me towards a man that was standing a distance off at one of the book tables. He was angled towards us.

Obviously, I was only there with my girlfriend so I told her no, I didn't. And asked why she was asking.

She informed me that he'd been following me around the store for some time and staring at me. I was quite taken aback by her words. I asked if she was sure, and she said yes. She said she wanted to make sure he wasn't with me. I thanked her dearly for the warning, and tried my best to ignore him.

In hindsight, I think it was the wrong thing to do. I probably should've asked the woman to tell one of the employees or something, shouldn't I? But I just wasn't thinking about it at the moment. I was trying to go back to enjoying my shopping, but I really couldn't focus.

I left after that, and thanked the woman again for her warning. I took a lap around the store, going the long way around the outside of all the shelves. Trying to put distance between all that and me. I found my girlfriend in the cafe and stayed and talked with her for a few minutes to calm my nerves. Another mistake I made, I didn't tell her about the situation just then. I didn't want to ruin the vacation, and honestly talking about it felt like it would be giving the situation more power than it already had. So I tried to ignore it.

I tried to go back to shopping around the store. And I saw the man a few more times. He was still in that store when we left.

I really regret not telling the store about it. I can only hope nothing happened. I wasn't really scared or worried about it or anything. Since I was in the middle of a pretty populated store in the middle of the day. I don't even know for sure if he really was following me around, or if the woman was just misunderstanding a coincidence.

Either way, its something I've been thinking about since it happened. I don't know what to think. I've never had something like that happen to me before.

Bye bye, Dollies. Please stay safe.
