I LOVE Yo-Kai Watch 1!!

Hiya Dollies! Back from the grave a month later~! Oopsies!

I've been hard at work on my writing projects lately, so I've been getting all my writing urges out in that form. I finished up Jeff Vs. Jane (that'll be releasing soon!), have been working on Dreadful & Cross (Formerly called Creature Feature), and just started up a new weekly series called Spirit Hunter Z.

But regardless, there's been something else that's been taking up my time lately.

YO-KAI WATCH!!

Out of nowhere, I got this intense urge to play Yo-Kai Watch. I played Yo Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits back when I was in high school, and had very fond memories of it. But not only did I never beat it, but I also never played Yo-Kai Watch 1 or 3.

So I went out to my local game store on a whim. (Not GameStop, unfortunately....). And it turned out to be my lucky day~! I ended up finding a used copy of Yo-Kai Watch 1! I bought it instantly (along with a copy of Bravely Second and Bravely Default Remastered, in case you were curious). I started playing the second I came home.

And oohhhhh my god. Its as fun as I remembered! I absolutely adore the set up of the game. The whole thing feels like a monster of the week anime turned video game. Its so unique for an RPG. I do wish there was a little more of an overarching plot though. The main story felt rather empty, comparatively. And Chairman McKraken kind of comes out of nowhere as a big villain. I think they should've built him and his plan up a little more. Lucas was also such a completely random character. Why not make it one of the friend group members that ended up being important for saving the world?

The biggest complaint I have by far though is the friendship system. UGH. I really want to collect all the Yo-Kai, but the random chance shit is sooooo tedious. I really dislike it, and its the main reason why I'm not really playing the post game.

Despite that though, I had a pretty fun time. This is my team!

I also played as Katie, in case you were wondering. Shout out to Skelebelle too, who I really wanted to befriend. But just didn't have the patience to grind for.

Its also really funny. I grinded for Rattelle and got her before finding out you get her for free from the story mission at the museum. That was quite comical.

Cadable here is named Cayden6, by the way. The only nickamed Yo-Kai on my team.

I also bought a fuck ton of used Yo-Kai Medallions from eBay. Now I'm just trying to find a nice medallium binder to keep them in! (The one I got with them is all fucked up and ruined).

I'll be starting my playthrough of Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Spectres shortly! I can't wait. I hope it's got a better story than 1 does. I don't remember much of the story from YKW2: Bony Spirits back when I played it.

But that'll be a good story for another time. For now....

Bye bye, Dollies~!
